I presented two illuminated chapters from the ongoing hysterical fantasy storytelling work Dinner Machine. In the manner of novels serialised in literary magazines, the story was distributed sequentially in a still developing state.

Each presentation of the story slightly reconfigures its individual pieces, as well as their spatial networking - here the comic was blown apart and pieces of it hung in the space; the film included a 6 minute ‘loading screen’ between loops and its start was periodically introduced by performances on the opening night.

Local, sensory encounters with a world not viewable in totality give the fiction qualities of a hyperobject.

Enlarged imagery from the comic, mounted on waste cardboard, decorates the space. Without their accompanying text, the diagrams and cartoons are stripped of their status as illustration, instead becoming window dressing or marginalia. As ornamentation, they extend ideas from the fiction into the gallery space, but destabilise the comic’s established visual metaphors.  Materially, they buckle and break, ready to be discarded.
