A growing archive of clown characters from my video and performance works.
Painting makeup designs on eggs is a tradition in the clown world. Though there is no formal legal framework for protecting the designs, the community enforces a kind of informal intellectual property regulation. Once a performer has their makeup design painted on an egg, it is theirs and theirs alone to use; these eggs are known as The Clown Egg Register.
The fragile, hollow shells that act as the archival medium are literal empty vessels made readable; they speak to processes of becoming and potential.
